Steak with Caramelised Onions

Ingredients

  • 2 sirloin steak
  • 1 onion
  • 1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • olive oil for frying
  • salt and pepper for seasoning
  • salad of your choice

Method

  1. Bring a frying pan to medium heat with a drizzle of olive oil
  2. Season the steak with salt and pepper on both sides and cook just how you like it
  3. Bring out of the frying pan and rest to one side
  4. Finely slice the onion
  5. Return frying pan to low heat with the butter, add the onions cooking until softened - approximately 4 minutes
  6. Add the balsamic vinegar and sugar
  7. Allow to bubble and reduce then remove from the heat
  8. Divide the steak between plates, top with the onion and serve alongside your favourite salad
  9. Enjoy!


Tips:

Steak cooking tips - allow the steak to rest on the bench until it reaches room temperature (approximately 60 minutes) while you heat the oven to 180°C fan bake and line a baking tray with baking paper; heat the pan to medium - high; cover the steak in olive oil and season thoroughly; fry until golden on the first side, flip and do the same on the other side, adding butter to the pan; place the steak into the oven for 2-3 minutes; remove and rest in a warm place for 5 minutes before serving
